WALTHAM HEADQUARTERED RAYTHEON IS CLOSING THEIR FACILITY IN SUDBURY AFTER FIVE DECADES. THE PLAN IS TO RELOCATE HUNDREDS OF EMPLOYEES TO EXISTING OFFICES IN OTHER TOWNS, PRIMARILY MARLBOROUGH. THE SUDBURY BOARD OF SELECTMEN HAVE EXPRESSED THEIR HOPE THAT THE CURRENT LARGE FACILITY ON ROUTE 20 COULD BE REDEVELOPED INTO A MIX OF AFFORDABLE RESIDENTIAL RENTAL UNITS AND RETAIL SHOPS. RAYTHEON PLANS TO FINISH THE EMPLOYEE TRANSITION BY THE END OF 2016.

THE HOPKINTON PLANNING BOARD WILL CONSIDER A PROPOSAL FOR A TENNIS AND SWIM CLUB ON LUMBER STREET AT AN UPCOMING MEETING. DON SATTERFIELD, OWNER OF CRANDALL AND HICKS CO. IN NORTHBOROUGH, AND PREVIOUS OWNER OF THE WESTBOROUGH SWIM AND TENNIS CLUB, HOPES TO CONSTRUCT A 39,000 SQUARE FOOT SPORTS FACILITY.
HIS PLANS INCLUDE SPACE FOR MULTIPLE TENNIS COURTS, AS WELL AS A ZERO-ENTRY POOL, AND KIDDIE AND LAP POOLS. THE POOLS AND COURTS WILL BE USED YEAR ROUND WITH COVERS IN THE WINTER. THERE WILL ALSO BE FITNESS ROOMS, A BASKETBALL COURT AND A SNACK BAR. THE CLUB WILL BE ADJACENT TO A HOUSING DEVELOPMENT TO BE BUILT BY MILL CREEK RESIDENTIAL TRUST.

DOWNTOWN MARLBOROUGHS MAIN STREET DISTRICT WILL RECEIVE THREE MILLION DOLLARS IN UPGRADES AND BEAUTIFICATION EFFORTS THANKS TO MASSWORKS. THE INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAM GRANT OF TWO POINT SEVEN MILLION DOLLARS WAS AWARDED TO THE CITY ON WEDNESDAY, ONE OF 10 SUCH GRANTS STATEWIDE. MARLBOROUGH HAD ALREADY PLANNED ON SPENDING MONEY FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO ROADWAYS, SIDEWALKS AND LIGHTPOSTS. THE GOAL IS TO ATTRACTIVE ADDITIONAL PRIVATE INVESTMENT TO THE AREA INCLUDING MIXED USE RETAIL AND RESIDENTIAL FACILITIES.
